Knowledge valorisation

Just like scientific publication is, valorisation (making value) of the knowledge developed within MUMC+ is of great importance. Valorisation can be societal valorisation (creation of work, business, better quality of care, better quality of life), or economic valorisation.

Knowledge valorisation is a trade apart. It entails the identification of potentially valuable scientific knowledge or innovations, the protection of the ‘Intellectual Property (IP)' by means of patenting or other forms of protection, and partnering with suitable market parties (out-licensing, R&D collaboration, etc.) or incorporation of new spin-off companies. To successfully navigate this complex arena, the MUMC+ can call on the expertise of BioMedbooster B.V. BioMedbooster is the technology transfer organisation of MUMC+ and is responsible for the valorisation of all life sciences innovations made by scientists of MUMC+.

BioMedbooster invests in patents and in further commercial trajectories. Costs incurred in these processes for a specific project, BioMedbooster will earn back only in case of actual revenues flowing from the activities (thus on basis of ‘no cure no pay'). BioMedbooster is also able to make modest financial investment for additional research in case such funds will be used to reinforce patent position, or for realisation of Proof Of Principle.

BioMedbooster exists for the scientists, and aims to work together with the scientists to get their innovations available for society.

Entering a valorisation trajectory (among which patenting results) will not hamper timely publication of research results. A patent application can be deposited 2 to 3 months after disclosure of the research results to BioMedbooster. After deposition of such patent application, the research results can be ‘safely' published. Vice versa, patenting is not possible once the data to be patented have already been published into the public domain in any form.

Gladly, BioMedbooster will be available to you to evaluate whether and how your knowledge, know-how or invention can be patented or otherwise can be used to create value with. You can always reach us with your questions or reactions, by:

To streamline the process of invention disclosure from GROW, BioMedbooster has developed an easy to use Invention Disclosure Form, or IDF. This IDF, once filled in, will give a precise overview of your invention. It sheds light, among a number of other things, on the state of the art, the problem to be solved, and your solution to the problem.

Below you will find a link to the empty IDF form. You can fill it in and send it to the email address above. BioMedbooster will at all times do their best to serve you.
